my new guest book!

Happy Halloween, it will be a quiet evening on the home front.  We don’t get trick ‘o treater’s where we live. It is up in a canyon, narrow windy roads with no sidewalks, really dangerous to trick or treat around here.  All the kids in the neighborhood go down the hill.

I might get motivated and go down the hill and take some photos of the decorations. One guy has a 700 pound pumpkin in his front yard that he grew!

I am making some vegetable bean soup, the house smells yummy.  I put a ham hock in it so it would be tasty!  I take it out after it cooks and dice up some lean ham and add to the soup.  I will make some cornbread to have along with it. Yummy.

my new guest book!
Well the room finally dried Wednesday, and the construction was supposed to start as soon as things were dry. Well, guess what. Nothing is happening. I called the contractor today, he was supposed to be here this morning to pick up a tile sample, he finally showed up a couple minutes ago.

I am just so mad, I am sick, my husband is gone  in Utah for 5 days and I am trying to get these bozos to get our house put back together. I am crying I am so frustrated.

The carpet has not yet been ordered, the tile guy is coming Monday to measure, it is going to be weeks before I can sleep in my bedroom again. We have been camping out in the living room on a mattress.

Sorry I had to get it off my chest. I am also PMS :/

I NEED A HUG!

Whining Weight Watcher. That’s me. I started on Monday, and blew it Monday, but have been good since.  My weigh in day is Monday but I got on the scale today, I don’t want to jinx anything so I will let you know if my on-line subscription to weight watchers is working.

I also installed a guestbook just for Yvonne!  But all of you can use it.

cough cough

On Tuesday night my husband and I were in the family room watching the world series. It was POURING rain. He suddenly noticed something walk by the window. (we have floor to ceiling windows) We got up at went to the front door and there standing at the front door was….. A BEAR!

We all got very excited an noisy, he looked at us and proceeded to walk down the stairs. I got my shoes on to follow him, I was interested in where he had come into the yard since it is completely fenced. But it was very dark and rainy and I wasn’t able to tell.

I am home sick, and my husband is leaving with his buddy to go here until Monday.  Convenient.  He is leaving after work today. Which leaves me to deal with the contractor tomorrow, the carpet people tomorrow and the tile people on Monday. Not to mention, I have to go to work on Monday. We are still sleeping in the living room.

So we are getting new carpet in our master bedroom and the hall.  New floor in the bathroom, and maybe new tile on the sinks and shower. They tore up part of the counter and are not sure if they can match it. If they can’t they have to re tile everything to match. We are going to pick up the tab for carpet in the other two bedrooms, our friend and realtor suggested it for resale value. THANK YOU! Hubby was against it, and in a way I was too because the kids will trash it.

I have a feeling we will be lucky if we are back in our bedroom by Thanksgiving! Luckily my sister in law decided she wanted to do the holiday this year.  I rally hate it when she does because she is a terrible cook. And her husband won’t eat anything with fat in it, so everything is bland.  I always offer to make something good, like stuffing or acorn squash or mashed potatoes, she want salad!  Well I decided this year I am going to cook on Friday, so we can have yummy stuff and leftovers for the rest of the weekend.

tell me!

old dogs

I had a dream last night about all my dogs, all the ones I have owned.  Bear, Kodiak, Rusty and of course Sprocket and Roscoe.  I even think there might have been aussie Shepard mix named Spotty that we had when I was a kid in the dream.  There was also my friends big Newfoundland Banff, who was about 170 pound dog. All these dogs are gone, except my 2 Sprocket and Roscoe.  In my dream they were all in my office, now my office is not big, it actually used to be a closet, it even has an electrical panel in it to prove it!

It was kind of a weird dream, they were all being good except Banff who wanted to smell all the butts. He was taking over the office!  I also had another dream, it was not so good.  I was trying to keep my 2 current babies from being captured by some derelict person who wanted to skin them.  My husband thinks my dreams are very disturbing, sometimes I think so too.

I found some really good diet potato chips, chips are really my weakness. They are Cape Cod reduced fat kettle chips, flashed baked. YUM.

tell me!

First of all I owe an apology about implying that Tennessee is redneck, now I have been to Nashville and it was fun and modern and has all the amenities of any big City, and more. I was talking about a little hick town called Shelbyville.  I have also spent enough time in small town mid-west America to have around some very red, rednecks.  They are all over.  Even in California .

Last week went by quickly. My conference was fun, I hit up the software vendor for a job and they were receptive. Either project management or consulting, which would be probably software set up and training.  The project management sounds like fun but could mean several months away coming home on weekends. I think the consulting would be more appropriate as I would only ravel 50% of the time. I will explore further if it looks as though we are going to relocate.

So another house disaster hit on Saturday night. I woke up to the sound of water, yes it was raining hard. What I was listening to was not outside however. There was a waterfall flowing from my linen closet. The bathroom floor was soaked through; the common wall had blisters on it from the water inside. Should I go on?

Yesterday the people who are going to take care of the water damage finally arrived, after 2 other groups declined to do the job because of the extensiveness of it.  The carpet torn out of the bathroom ¾ of the bedroom and 3 feet into the hall, holes drilled into the wall, and today the construction crew came to remove the built in cabinets, sinks and vanity away from the wall in the bathroom so it can dry. This means dismantling customs cabinets, and chiseling away the tile on the backsplash so they can pull the double sink vanity out in one piece. Nat call me and said they were hollering and when she went to check out what was going on, there was a rat living under the vanity!  And you all know how I love rats, I feel like telling them he was a pet. Apparently they were quite spooked, but safely relocated him outside somewhere. Poor little guy, and its pouring rain too.

I need to get back on my diet.  Last week was bad because I was at a conference and all the meals were pretty much included, and then this week it has been impossible to cook, so we have been eating pizza and leftovers or grilled cheese.  Not exactly diet food. Today I actually ate In and 0ut for lunch. It was pouring rain and I had to go home to meet the contractors for a bit, so driving back to work I got lunch Bad GIRL!  Oh well.

Good Bye Columbus

Ahhh, thank you Mr. Columbus for that day off yesterday, I am glad that you got credit for something that the Vikings did! Well it was a day off, but started off fairly hectic.

I got up and Jacob decided he had a very bad back ache.  I gave him Adv**il and made him take a long hot shower, still hurt, back into bed with a heating pad. It was probably from sitting at the computer all day on Sunday finishing a science report that he had several weeks to do.  He is quite the last minute type of guy; at least it came out pretty well.

So back to bed for me, I was going to sleep in, until Jacob comes in with the phone. Its Nat’s doctor.  Apparently her boyfriend called and found her unable to wake up this morning. He called the doc before 911, bad decision. Oh, I forgot to tell you all that she was given permission by the doc’s to drive to Monterey Bay (CSUMB) to visit her boyfriend, a 7 hour drive, all by herself.   She left last Thursday.  Well after a nice weekend her blood sugars apparently went out of whack.  It was 23 when she got to the ER.

Needless to say she is ok, and driving home today by herself.  Yesterday morning I was certain she would have to be care flighted back to LA.  You know how mom’s get. Even though she could have died from diabetic shock if she was not woken up!  Ok so this is life, I will deal.

Hubby went out of town this morning. Shelbyville , Tennessee .   An interesting place for a nice Jewish boy to go!  Good thing he eats pork, and doesn’t keep kosher.  LOL.  He will be back Thursday night. And wouldn’t you know I am leaving for a conference tomorrow.  Neither of us has traveled for months then all of a sudden we both have plans the same week. I will return Friday late afternoon.  SO that leaves Wednesday night and Thursday until after dinner to the care of 2 teenagers and a 21 year old.  We will see how this goes.

Luckily I am only going to be in San Diego , a 2 hour drive. I can get home fairly quick if necessary. Hi Pam, yes I will be in your stomping grounds at the Catamaran resort at the bar drinking M drinks, Maitais Martinis or Margaritas!  Or being good and going to classes.

So I went to bed about an hour ago. I couldn’t sleep, I am feeling jerky and tense. Like I did coke, but I didn’t. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHEEEEHHH!

Weird feeling, so I am drinking vodka to counteract it.

tell me!

Sprocket is home as of Monday. He is obviously feeling better, and they think he had some type of infection as the blood work showed a very high white count. He is eating a special diet for a few days; he probably doesn’t need it because he has been mean to Roscoe, chasing him away from his food bowl, animal life at home back to normal.

All chaos has broken lose at work. I am afraid to write to much about it, God know who reads this thing.  But I don’t foresee things getting better in the near future.

One of my on-line friends recounted the day she lost one of her babies several years ago. It is like that when you lose one you love. I know Ro does the same thing. I bet we all remember that day, and how it happened, or why. It makes me sad, her post was very touching.

tell me!

It is Friday. My day off. I had planned on cleaning, all the dust, all the bed clothes. Everything.. I swept the kitchen and hall and started to dust our bedroom. I noticed as I was dusting there was more dust drifting down from the ceiling.  I looked at the sheets I had covered the bed with, a new layer of dust.

Yes they are still at it. They are putting on the roof today. Started bright and early pounding away at 7:00am, I took Jake to school and came back to crawl into bed to catch a couple more hours of dreamland, and BOOM! That was not going to happen. Poor Roscoe is beside himself.  Every time there is a thud he jumps an gets closer to me or burrows under a blanket!

So here I am in the family room. Fairly safe from falling debris; there are dry wall ceilings here. No dust.  The ceilings in the bedrooms are slats, so thus the mess.  I wanted to get the house clean so Nat could come home tonight. Thank will probably not happen unless these guys finish early.  I think they will be here al day.

Why haven’t I left?  Well Sprocket is in the hospital.  So I am waiting for the vet to call and Roscoe and Homey are out of sorts with all the noise and people outside, not to mention the thing in the driveway that is as big as a car very noisy and is a bubbling cauldron of tar.

Sprocket has been vomiting and having diarrhea since Sunday. I thought he was better until yesterday morning when I was taking him to day care and he threw up in the car all over me. The vet said he was dehydrated, so he is on IV fluids and they are running tests. Lots of test, blood x-rays etc. This morning they said he was still throwing up and he had diarrhea all night. I am pretty worried. They have found nothing except the fact that he is mildly anemic. I am going to go visit him later this afternoon.  I just want him home, I feel terrible about this. I can’t imagine what could have happened. He just barfed Sunday morning and had not really been eating.

So here I am hunkered down in the house, listening to people walk and pound on the roof, and the bubbling cauldron outside.  I guess it is an appropriate way to start the month of October.
