Almost Thanksgiving

I have been not in the mood to write much.  I have been doing well on WW losing 5 in the first two weeks.  My goal this week because of the holiday is not to gain.  Fingers crossed!  I took off yesterday and today to prepare for the crown that will ascend upon me tomorrow.

I shopped at 3 stores yesterday, and then went to another to buy more napkins as I did not have enough for 18 (cloth ones). I also got out the table cloths, figured out the tables, bringing in one from outside and using a small table for 4 so everyone will have a place.  This afternoon I will start cooking.

The menu consists of Turkey, stuffing 2 types, one for the vegetarians in the group.  Cauliflower, asparagus, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes I mix the wet and regular together, and gravy.  Oh and for appetizers, brushetta, hummus and pita chips and a cheese board.  I will be making pecan pies and a pumpkin pie cake which is very easy!  Others are bringing pumpkin pies and cheesecake, and an assortment of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

Last Years Turkey
Last year I think we had close to thismany maybe a few less, and I had a great time with it. I think becuase it was my first Thanksgiving in my house. This year I am kicking myself for doing this.  I will see have I feel tomorrow, and then decide if someone will be taking me out for dinner next year!

Today I will make the pies and cake, and prep all the stuffing since there is a tremndous amount of chopping of things.  I am for the first time going to try cooking my turkey in a bag.  Last years was beautifully brown, but not as juicy as I would have liked.  This year may not look as pretty but I am hoping for juicy!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.  May God bless you and your families and keep you safe and warm this holiday.  Don’t forget those who are less fortunate than us. Give at your local food bank, or volunteer if you can.

The Big Shake Out

So in order not to obsess to much about my points I thought I would tell you a bit about our EOC (emergency operations center) activation today as part of the big earthquake drill here in CCalifornia.  Well at 10:00 this morning we had a 7.8 (pretend earthquake).  The EOC was activated and we reported to our posts, I co-chair the Logistics section in my city. It was a 3 hour exercise and we had calls coming in from outside agencies that were participating and some staff that were making calls to simulate different things.  Not to bore you with all the details, although some of it was pretty wild, I took a call from a Senior Citizen on a bus whose driver had abandoned them. 50 seniors on a bus!  We also had to relocate our EOC to another location (which we actually did, not just role played) because of the dam in the canyon above us that was leaking and going to break. Logistics handles getting all the things, shelters, facilities, food, staging areas, morgues, pet evacuation, mutual aid, etc for the emergency.  We had to be aware of the flood inundation area and set up all these outside that area.  We work with lots of outside agencies and vendors to make all this happen.  All in all it was pretty realistic, even though on alot of things we had to make assumptions since we were running a scenario not the real thing. Such as sending out a building inspector to check a facility before telling the red cross it was safe to use as a shelter.  That was coordinated through other groups but no one actually made an inspection. Well enough of that.

I kept in my points range yesterday and it looks like today will be ok too. Although I am ravenous when I get home from work, so I eat a couple of bites of protein, chicken breast etc to tide me over til dinner.

Sprocket had a dental cleaning yesterday wit one extraction. It took a toll on him, he is really shaky and seems to be in some pain. I medicated him and he ate some dinner, but I had to had fed him.  I only saw him drink water a little this morning, not this evening. If he doesn’t drink more I might syringe a little into his mouth.  I don’t want him to dehydrate.

Some Motivation

Kathy over at Kitchen Logic got us all worked up to lose 10 pounds about a month ago.  She even created the 10 pound blog for inspiration and made some of us bracelets to wear to remind us not to open our mouths so much!  All of this encouragement and motivation and have I lost a single pound? NO.  I actually  gained one as of today.  So because I really want this bad I joined Weight Watchers on-line.  Being a geek doing things via a computer just seems to work for me, after all I have 4 blogs, and about 6 e-mail accounts, so it makes sense to lose weight electronically.

I thought I would also try and blog more often, so I don’t obsess over what I can or can’t eat.  Which is why the post today.  So I can obsess here, instead of in my head.  I get 22 points each day, so far I have eaten oatmeal, a turkey sandwich (no mayo) and a cup of chicken noodle soup. 9 points total.  Not sure what dinner will bring, but I have this knitting project I want to finish and you can’t knit and eat at the same time so I am hopeful.

Speaking of which here it is.

This is one of Candice’s Christmas gifts, I am thinking about making a matching hat.
